Food wastage

Every year, one third of all food produced globally goes to waste. This not only affects our wallets but also has a significant impact on our environment. When food waste ends up in landfills, it releases methane gas, which contributes to climate change. We can reduce food waste by buying only what we need, planning our meals, and composting our food scraps. Let's work together to reduce food waste and make a positive impact on our environment. Food waste is a significant problem that affects individuals, businesses, and the environment. According to the United Nations, approximately one-third of all food produced globally goes to waste each year. This equates to 1.3 billion tonnes of food, which is enough to feed three billion people. Food waste has many negative consequences. Firstly, it is a waste of resources. Producing food requires land, water, energy, and other resources. When food is wasted, these resources are also wasted. This is not only bad for the environment but also ...

Biodegradable v/s Compostable

Sometimes, we all get confused with these two phrases - Biodegradable & Compostable.

Biodegradable materials have the potential to breakdown with the help of the movement of microorganisms including bacteria and fungi, and so on.

Bio” which means “life,” “degrade” which means to break down, and “able”   of course meaning that it can happen. Biodegradation is the technique of nature taking its direction and breaking down materials into small parts.

Plastic can breakdown into carbon dioxide, water, and some different matters.

Pretty simple, right? The fact is that many of things are biodegradable, if given enough time. Plastics specially are known to take decades or maybe centuries to breakdown naturally, however they will breakdown. So, technically speaking, they're biodegradable.

Even diapers, infamous for lasting a long term in landfills, will breakdown ultimately. While a packaging enterprise says that their product is biodegradable, all they sincerely suggest is that it's going to break down whilst placed in a land fill. This is a great thing! obviously we don’t want products that last forever sitting in our land fills. The key, however, is to take note of how long it takes for the product to biodegrade. Some products degrade in months, while others take years. When shopping for green products, the less time for biodegradation the better.
While Compostable materials have the capacity to interrupt down underneath special composting conditions in composting piles so as to make compost.

Compostable materials are just like biodegradable materials. Both contain the motion of microorganisms. When you take organic substances and allow it to decompose which then creates fertilizer for your soil. Composting is the process of recycling organic waste in order that it can finally be reused.

Within the packaging world, compostable manner is something a bit exceptional. Typically, what compostable packaging means after the company call their product “compostable” is that it may become compost… if entered into an industrial composting facility. This is an important difference. Compostable merchandise do not always biodegrade in a landfill. They should be located in the proper sort of situations, conditions that are only found in commercial compost facilities.

Compostable merchandise will take much longer to break down if in a landfill, specifically an “air locked” landfill wherein there will be no oxygen.Compostable products are good for environment, but it's far crucial to proper circumstances have to be created for carrying out the composting process. Make certain that your compostable waste is going to a compost facility.

What’s the difference? The difference among compostable and biodegradable is that compostable products require a particular process in order to break down, whereas biodegradable products breakdown clearly. Usually composting is a faster method, but best in the right conditions. Each of those types of products are better for the environment than plastic products which can take so many years to decompose.

However, biodegradation happens within landfills, whilst composting occurs in compost piles.

Bacteria and fungi specifically carry out biodegradation inside the environment. Normally, these material have plant or animal starting place. Some common examples of biodegradable materials are food waste, plant waste, manure & municipal solid waste.

Compostable is the potential of materials to convert into compost. It depends on the traits of the given material and the supplied situations.

For compostable products to break down effectively, they need to be thrown away in a compost heap. Compost heaps are wealthy in microorganisms and attain excessive temperatures, which permit product to break down quick. Those varieties of products do not breakdown without difficulty in traditional landfills, so compostable products should no longer be thrown within the trash. Moreover, many kinds of compostable products mimic the appearance of plastic, but they are not recycled.

Furthermore, external environmental conditions, together with temperature, soil microorganisms, additionally affect composting. Compostable materials are similar to biodegradable however they can act like fertilizer.

Also, biodegradation occurs below normal environmental conditions, whilst compost making happens below controlled situations.

If some thing is biodegradable, it way it'll breakdown over time — however that point is undefined and now not held to a specific standard. The plastics enterprise frequently claims their products are biodegradable.

When used by producers, “biodegradable” generally is related to environment. A product will breakdown into smaller and smaller portions till it may be ate up by means of microorganisms like micro organism, fungi, and algae.

Even though compostable and biodegradable are regularly used interchangeably, they no longer suggest the similatities. Biodegradable approach that a product can breakdown without oxygen and develop into carbon dioxide, water and biomass inside an affordable quantity of time. However, any product—be it a plastic electronic or toxic battery—will finally breakdown.

So, the compostable plastics are basically transformed into compost and CO2, which can be used to enhance soils for green and sustainable growth of plants, such as corn. It could be even used to make greater compostable plastic, even though this may not be a good use for food crops.

The time period of biodegradable is when an item will break down into smaller components after disposal. But, being biodegradable does not mean that it is also compostable. The largest purpose for this is that even as a biodegradable item may additionally break down into smaller bits, these components might not be capable of providing any nutrients when used as compost.

Biodegradable products can include everything from diapers to packing peanuts and those products can leave metal residue in their return to nature, something compostable materials provide no longer.

Items simply listed as biodegradable cannot be placed in your compost container, nor should biodegradable bags be used to set out your extra organic material.

Not all the biodegradable materials are compostable. Compostability  is a characteristic of some biodegradable materials.

Thus, it is crucial we understand the difference between these two terms. It will help us understand our environment better. Also, this will help us in choosing the right product. As consumers are becoming aware day-by-day it is essential they also understand which one is the right choice.

Many brands sell their products and call them compostable but in reality the consumer get cheater and it is found out the product is totally differenr from what the company described so before making a purchase we should ensure whatever we are buying is good in all the sense.Even it should be considered in mind, it shouls not harm the environment.

Numerous types of sanitary pads has been introduced for their sanitation. As per research, a female uses 17000 pads approximately in her life.
